   I bought this little hummer of a coffee maker on a whim and suggestion from Wirecutter. I am not disappointed because it has performed very well and my is better than my older coffee maker. I especially like the two selections; classic and rich for a selection of the taste from the brewing. While it comes with a reusable basket, I have been using unbleached #4 coffee cones. I had just bought a new supply so decided to use them before trying the basket. I was concerned about the whether the reservoir would leak, but thus far, I haven’t experienced leaking. The timer function works perfectly for brewing before I get up. It has a heated bottom plate which keeps the coffee warm. The small batch function works perfectly for four scoops of coffee and 4 cups of water in the reservoir. One last item: the reservoir has a capacity for twelve cups of coffee. However, the amount of coffee scoops and water must match for brewing. IOW, don’t put fours scoops of coffee in the brew basket and 12 cups of water in the reservoir. The machine will run the 12 cups of water over your 4 scoops of coffee which would produce a…….well, you get my drift. Merry Christmas, y’all.

   Really love this coffee maker. Easy to use, I love the detachable water filler, and the dispenser tube that goes down into the brew pot so you get an even brew. But we’ve only had it for a few months and for some reason it’s leaking at the bottom every time it brews. I can’t figure out where it’s coming from. We just have a dish towel next to it all the time but kind of a bummer.

   I’ve been using this coffee maker for several months and have been very happy with the the speed and temperature of the coffee. It might be a tad slower than my previous maker but if others hadn’t mentioned it I don’t think I would have noticed it takes about a minute longer. The temperature of the coffee is HOT and the taste has been great. The warming plate keeps it hot and it doesn’t taste burnt at the end of the warm cycle either. I really appreciate that it has an auto shut off so I don’t have to worry if I don’t remember I turned it off or not. If you pour the whole pot just press the power button and you can shut the whole thing off.

   I really like that the water reservoir is removable so you can take it over to the sink to fill it up instead of having to use the glass carafe like so many other makers. The only negative to the reservoir is the black markings are every 2 cups so you have to estimate the halfway point if you make an odd number.

   Setting the time and the delay brew is very easy. The delay brew will remember your previous settings (classic, rich, small brew) but you can easily change them for that brew if needed.

   Don’t need fancy coffee. A simple pot of diner-style is my go-to, and this Ninja does the job well. Can’t comment on its longevity or durability yet, since I’ve only had it for a short time, but it brews a piping hot pot with no fuss every time. Have no intention of removing the water tank unless it needs cleaning, and just fill it with a pitcher. (Really appreciate the clear, easy-to-read measurement markings on the tank, and the wide opening in which to pour water.) Hopefully this will extend the life of its seal, which seems to become problematic with leaking over time, based on several reviews here. I will say this, I notice no difference between the two brew styles – “Rich” and “Classic.” Both pots taste the same. While I appreciate them including a permanent filter, have never been a fan of the mesh filters, as it’s been my experience they lead to an oilier pot of coffee, so I use traditional No. 4 paper cone filters, which also make for easier cleanup. Looks good in the kitchen, makes good coffee, and at only $69, this has been a very good purchase, so far. Hope I get a few years out of it.

   This is my second Ninja. I would say it’s pretty durable. I had it over 4 years before it died. The quality and functionality is the reason I bought another. I love the capacity of 12 cup removable water tank and the auto shut off with 2hour warmer.

   The brewer does its job. Brews pretty fast, and the removable water tank makes it easy to clean. There’s a problem, however… The buttons literally don’t do anything: – want to use just the “stay warm” option? You can’t have water in the tank. Otherwise, it will brew. – using a “small batch” mode (up to 4 cups)? Guess what, you can have 12 cups in the tank, and it will brew all 12 cups regardless. Makes you question what is the point of such button, right? – brewing the coffee and you think it brewed enough? Too bad, disabling the “brew” button doesn’t stop the brewing process. Honestly, why is there a small batch option, if it doesn’t make a difference? Why is there a brew button, if “stay warm” acts the same? I’ll be reaching out to the support to get answers to those question.

   I’ve used a Cuisinart coffee maker for over 20 years, probably longer, way back to when Braun was the brand to have. My last one was the 14 cup version and it lasted 8 1/2 years before electrical death. Rather than buying another Cuisinart, I decided to try one of these Ninjas. This then is a story of the differences and how I learned to use a new machine. First, I realize the old machine was… old. That said, the new Ninja sure makes better coffee, there’s clarity, excitement and layers that the old one simply had forgotten. My father taught me pour-over in 1967, with a white ceramic Melita holder over a coffee pot. He taught me the formula “1 tablespoon per cup, plus 1 for the pot” which has never let me down. My mom sent me Starbucks beans way back when they were just a local Seattle store. (She also turned me onto ninjaoutlets.com.) OK on to the comparison. The Ninja involves 100% more work to get started than the Cuisinart. You have to power up the machine AND hit the Brew button. With Cuisinart you just mash in that one button and you’re good. With it you only have one lid to flip to get to the filter and water tank. Ninja has separate lids, and only one flips, the other lifts off. I prefer to fill the pot from the filtered water spigot, and use the pot to fill the tank. That’s actually the way to do the Cuisinart. But Ninja’s tank is removable, see through, and has the cup lines, and you’re supposed to take it off and fill it. But I don’t want to as think the gasket at the bottom that seals the thing is a point of failure that needs to be left alone. The pot doesn’t have cup markers, but I find after the first time (when I also didn’t know I had to hit both power and brew) I find I can eyeball it very accurately nonetheless. It pours out faster and more smoothly than the Cuisinart ever did. And doesn’t drip. The lid is over engineered as you have to twist it in place rather than just snapping it on. And yanking it from under the filter one needs to be more considerate – out horizontally first rather than just snatching it up diagonally. But I have to say the new pot feels nicer than the old. The filter bit. Interestingly the filter crease goes side to side rather than front to back. Another surprise, but this setup is much nicer and aesthetically pleasing, one can just wrap ones fingers and plunge them, inside the paper cone, into the cavity of the filter holder. The old one needed a pivot of the arm and wrist or a two handed tuck of the filter. The Cuisinart slides on the counter while the Ninja has non-slip feet and I have to lift it to put it back under the cabinet after filling it. They are about equally noisy. The Cuisinart beeps much louder. You can turn off the beep though. Neither clock holds the time in a power out. I have used the timed brew twice in the last 67 years, but both machines will do that. What else? What was ‘between 8 and 9 cups’ on the Cuisinart is ‘around 7 cups’ on the Ninja, that is, those amounts comfortably fill 4 mugs with a little bit left over. Interestingly, though the volume of water is about the same, the cups marks work well with the 1 per cup + 1 for the pot formula, and the Ninja works with 8 spoons where the Cuisinart (at the end of its life) needed between 9 and 10. Oh, I use a ‘2 spoon’ big scoop instead of those 1 spoon things that come with machines and sometimes with cans of coffee. Much more efficient and easy to keep count. You know how hard it is to count to 4, much less 8! So, the Ninja coffee is better, though I don’t know if it would be better than with a brand new Cuisinart. How long the thing will last, we’ll see. Overall I’m pleased.
