   … I am glad I did. I had been wanting to try an air fryer but was concerned that it might be hard to return a cooking device after as many multiple uses I had in mind. The Prime Day deal of <$45 solved a price-time problem that Yale economics professor Bill Nordhaus advanced. How many hours would we have to work in order to afford a consumer item? With a price point of <$45, this Ninja air fryer can get consumers to try it out, and few of them will have to work more than 3 hours (i.e., $15/hour) to afford the device at that price. I’ve been using it for about a week. It already has saved me about three hours of cooking/cleaning time that I otherwise would have had to ‘spend’ as time cooking and cleaning up after I used this device to prepare: (i) corn on the cob, (ii) yellow perch filets, (iii) brats and hot dogs, (iv) frozen lasagna I bought on sale, (v) coconut shrimp, also frozen and on sale, (vi) bacon, (vii) small potatoes and other fresh vegetables, etc. To be truthful, I sometimes try to reduce cleaning time by using a little aluminum foil platform cut to about 5×5 inches and folded to trap moisture. So the cost of each item is a bit more when I do that. But it’s not necessary. It’s easy to clean. I have had none of the ‘smells’ issues mentioned by other purchasers of this device. Recall that this is a trimmed down model I bought to try out for our downsized family of two adults, but large enough to try things out. As an example, perch filets this AM took 6 minutes to cook, and 2 minutes to clean up. Tonight, three fresh Michigan corn on the cob cut in 1/2 required two cooking cycles of 6 minutes each in hand folded aluminum foil ‘shelf’ I created for inside the basket, no need for washing it. I washed the foil for next use. Lasagna foil was too messy to clean. I tossed it but didn’t have to wash anything. You get the picture. Try it to gain the air fryer experience and decide whether you want more whistles and bells with a more expensive air fryer. I’ll be watching for a device with 4-6 quart basket and more temperature options. This one has 2-quart basket and 400 degrees F, but I adjust the timer to deal with the fixed temperature it delivers. Not a problem. Most of the time, it means fewer minutes from start to finish. Highly recommended if you want to try out the air fryer experience. If I were a Ninja executive, I’d use it as a loss leader, get people to try it for <$45, and then give then a discount coupon to purchase upward toward a more fully-featured model once the initial experience is positive. The way Toyota marketed its early cars 50+ years ago. Got us hooked on low price Corollas in hope we’d spring for the higher price Toyota Coronas, etc. (p.s. A few more weeks of positive experience and no plastic smell. The fixed 400 degree F setting is not an impediment. I just adjust cooking time downward when the recipe calls for 275-399 F. The 6.3 inch square air fryer liners sold by MT&L via ninjaoutlets.com fit reasonably well (photo) & the height keeps the top edge of liner away from upper level of basket. The round 6.3″ diameter Mikapana liners fit inside also, with a little tolerable wrinkle, per Pythagorean theorem. A 5.5″ square liner would fit even better, but I’ll use up the 6.3″ set before I look for something smaller.)

   I drive a 2022 Freightliner Cascadia with a 2000 watt inverter. I had a bigger air fryer before this Ninja brand. My inverter wouldn’t handle the bigger one and I had to switch to this little one. I’m happy with this one. I splash a little bit of oil on the grill, cut the steak/chicken breast into a smaller portion to fit in the basket, set the timer to the time I want and that’s it. Really easy to use. Whatever cooking utensils I have dirtied I would take it in the shower room and use the sink from Love’s or Pilot and clean it in there.

   Ninja has never let me down. I think I own 7 of their products. I have 2 other Ninja air fryers! I googled “compact/mini air fryer” and of course ninjaoutlets.com came up with this NINJA (they know my weakness). Although I’ve had it for nearly a week, I decided to take it for a test drive today. My first test was leftover fried catfish. It blew my 10-year old original Ninja out of the water! I normally do 8 minutes at 390 and I stop half way to flip. This thing did a better job in 4 minutes with no flipping. Granted, it only accommodates 2 or 3 pieces of catfish, but you reload it with 3 more pieces while you EAT! I just tried it out on chicken wings that were originally deep fried and then dipped in sauce. The sauce was low sugar. It was like a Frank’s Hot Sause infused with garlic, but it was still sticky when fresh. Fast forward 16 hours and I dropped 3 of these soggy (breaded) party wings into this mini-Ninja for 4 minutes and they were BETTER than original! I’m very pleased with this devise and I plan to Christmas gift this to all my friends and family.

   I purchased this as a Prime Deal for about $35. It operates at one heating temperature and has a rudimentary dial timer. The simplistic design is easy to use but does not warrant the full MSRP of $70. The basket and tray are not dishwasher safe but the non-stick surfaces are easily cleaned by hand with soap and water. Aftermarket silicon or paper inserts would further simplify clean up. It does a nice job chicken wings, but size limits then number of wings to about six or eight to ensure even cooking and crispness (single layer). If your house goes through a lot of pizza rolls and chicken nuggets in single serving quantities, this might be a good option. The nature of air fryers is circulating air so while its pretty quiet during warm up it gets about as noisy as a microwave when it gets going. It also projects the smell of the cooking food a good ways. This unit takes up about as much space as a toaster. A good toaster oven with an air fryer setting might be a more versatile tool that handles multiple functions without sacrificing counter space.

   I live alone and never had an air fryer before but always wanted one. I got this for $40 and it’s big enough for a couple. I haven’t had many opportunities to try it but the times I have used it, it has gotten the job done. I will have to agree with some people on disliking the lack of temperature controls but it’s a good little air fryer to try out, especially if you can get it on a deal. 4 stars only because its normal price of $80-90 seems a little too pricey

   Just got this Ninja Air Fryer and I’m not exaggerating when I say it’s changing my life. Seriously, I used to burn salad and now I’m making gourmet meals! Pros: Super easy to use: Even I can’t mess it up. The buttons are straightforward and it heats up super fast. Crispy everything: French fries, chicken wings, veggies – you name it, they come out perfectly crispy. I’m eating more veggies now because of this thing. Way healthier: Less oil, less guilt. I can snack without feeling like I need to run a marathon afterwards. Easy clean-up: The basket just pops out and it’s non-stick, so a quick wash and you’re done. No more scrubbing pans for hours. Cons: Size: Wish it was a bit bigger. When I make food for friends, I have to cook in batches. But still worth it. Check out the picture I posted with the Air Fryer Home Fries. AIR FRYER HOME FRIES RECIPE: INGREDIENTS 2 big potatoes, diced 1/2 green bell pepper, diced 1/2 red bell pepper, diced 1/2 yellow onion, diced 1/2 tablespoon, garlic powder 1/2 tablespoon, onion powder 1/2 teaspoon, smoked mild paprika 1 teaspoon all-purpose seasoning Salt and pepper to taste 1 tablespoon olive oil + more if needed. INSTRUCTIONS Preheat your air fryer to 400 degrees. Dice or slice your bell peppers and onions, and put in a large bowl. Dice or chop your potatoes (with or without skins) and mix into the bowl with your peppers and onions. Drizzle everything with your oil of choice. Sprinkle your seasoning in and mix everything until well coated. Cook in your air fryer for about 15 minutes, stirring halfway through. Check for doneness, if needed, cook a bit longer, depending on how large you cut your potatoes.
